How does one choose between these tunes for the N54?
Each seems to have it pro's and cons. Both are supposedly amazing. Both add 80hp. Both are invisible to the ECU.
JB3 can be installed and removed at home, offers selectable remaps, and is less expensive. It is not physically invisible and would need to be removed if something bad happened before seeking service and doesn,t offer a warranty for subsequent damage.
Dinan is physically invisible and can completely disappear with a reflash. It offers 4/50000 warranty for collateral damage and remaps the water pump for cooling. It cost 3.5 times as much and requires sending the ECU to the west coast which amounts to a four day install.
How did you choose?
Does your SA's know what you've got?

bottom line is, JB3 has better numbers - no doubt!
i went with peace of mind, i went with Dinan. my SA knows about my tune, cuz' they do it there as well and i don't have to worry about taking it out when i go.
if you go with Dinan, let me know and i can hook you up with one of my sponsors.

comes down to peace of mind IMO. At least with Dinan you do have the warranty. With the Jb3 V1.22 it's a beast, but you have a possibility of throwing warranty codes and voiding your BMW warranty. But if you know of a shop that has or if you have a GT1 scanner that can erase the codes...you would be good to go.
If you don't want to mess with your ECU but wantsome boost increase you can check out the SSTT or JB+ that connect to your tmap sensor. Gains are not as significant due to no ecu control over fuel pressures.
SSTT boasts +3.5 psi's and recent thread on e90 posts states it's still invisible with SW 32.1. JB+ is adjustable boost, from +2 psi to +5 psi (it's been stated anything above +2.5 psi has a risk of throwing warranty codes, and if you are pre SW 29.2 you can adjust to higher boost levels)
Another factor would be what SW version your have. The newer SW version may have easier ways of detecting a tune/piggyback....
GL with your decision

My 535 is still on en route to the port and thus will have the most updated SW.
Both claim to still be invisible to the most recent SW.
How do you prepare for disaster at 55K miles? If your SA knows that your chipped, an extended warranty claim is out, no?

I would take some time and research on e90 posts and n54tech.com Both those forums have discussed tunes, invisibility, and warranty to nausea, especially on e90 posts. GL
Don't forget about Procede.
Currently Shiv is working on tuning for an ASR turbo upgrade for the N54. Don't see any other tuner out their doing that yet. Dinan most likely never will.
