Looks like I'll have to choose between a discounted 545i+super vs. a 550i (assuming I don't go bankrupt in the next few months).
You'll be waiting a loooong time unless you're an expert auto mechanic and are willing to build one yourself. Based on how long it has taken to come out with a SC for the 545i, tag on 18 months after the 550 hits the streets. That brings us to the middle of 2007.

Is there really no supercharger for the 545i. I know this company is working on a prototype, but the engine isn't exactly new. If you look around, it'd be hard to imagine that some reputable company doesn't have some type of application for the 545 v8.

Hmmm I think that supercharger you are talking about is the one that I just saw at Bimmerfest. I dunno if you already did it but if you don't end up doing it I might be interested in getting one even after the prototype. Let me know how it works. Thanks
This is the problem I have with 'reputable companies' like Dinan and Alpina. They can do great performance upgrades, but they sell it as part of an extremely expensive package including wheels, suspension, brakes, etc. - all sorts of stuff unrelated to pure performance. Pretty soon you're talking about $35k over list. I don't need all of that other crap.

Let me speak as someone who OWNS a VF Engineering supercharged car and has dealt with the company extensively.
You are a fool for not taking the deal. There is no one who is more knowledgeable about BMWs or european cars in general than Nik@VF. While there will be issues of fine tuning and you may have to have your car there for longer than you may expect sometimes for the sake of getting it right.. but once it is done and they are ready to unveil the final product, your car is going to be tremendous.
I plan on supercharging my 545i as soon as Nik has something for it... I don't live in California so I can't offer my car for prototyping..
