Now that I've tricked you into reading this thread, I have a problem; I'm about to install the iPod retrofit for my 2004 530i.
I have the business navigation and 6-stack CD player. The CD stacker doesn't play MP3 cds, but the dash CD-Player will.

So do you think I will need programming after the install? Or should everything be plug n play?

So as long as my dash CD-player plays MP3s, the retrofit should be plug and play?
Can anyone else confirm this? Cheers guys

The programming for MP3 is the key. you are replacing the 6 cd changer with an interface that the idrive software sees as a cd changer. CD1 = browse by somehting, CD2 = browse by somehting else, CD3 = browse by the other thing......and so on.

This is a 15 minute DIY, go do it and let us know how it all works out

Installed it, plugged in iPod... nothing on iDrive. Turns out it wasn't plug and play. Dammit, time to take it to the dealers.

Have a read through this thread

If you have CDC Prep & your In-Dash CD Player plays MP3's, there is no reason the retrofit should not work.
What year is your vehicle?
