I am hoping this will be straight forward for someone out there, i have read alot of posts before writing this so appologies in advance if i have missed something.

I have a 05 530 with a 6 CD changer and Nav, i have had the software upgraded ths month due to an active sterring issue which required a full update.

So here goes....what parts do i need for the IPOD retro fit? If i intall them by swapping the IPOD for the CD stacker myself will it "plug and play" throught the I-Drive automoatically or will it still need dealer involvement? Can anyone recommed someone that will sell me these parts and is happy to ship to Australia?

FYI the dealer here in Adeaide wants 2K to do it which seems a little over the top hence wanting to know if it is a DIY job.

no it will not plug and play. your idrive must be programmed for the retrofit.

If you have enable mp3 while updating your cip and you have cd changer , no need to reprogramme , it is a plug n play.

I can play mp3 files through the the slot in the centre consol where the NAV disc goes but the 6 stacked does not recognise mp3 files? Do i still need to get CIP upgraded to allow mp3 for the stacker or not?

Thanks in advance or your help

cheers

G'day Mat,

I asked a couple of dealers in Brisbane and the Gold Coast for the Ipod Retrofit kit install. Quotes were $900 and $1120. I have a 2005 530i Sport with NAV, 6CDC in the glove box and my Dash CD plays MP3s. I am going to enquite about the dealer doing a CIP update FOC on Friday. From there I may well give the aftermarket kit a go - if I can get one from the US shipped here. If I do I'll take photos etc and let you know how I go,

Stephen

You can do the retrofit. My costs were right around $500 (US) for parts, labor and software update. Several folks have reported what vishwen says about plug and play. It's worth a try, if it doesn't work, bring it in for the activation/update.

here is the realoem.com listing for the parts (courtesy KnIgHtCoM's earlier post)...
