While the dollar figure is not totally out of line given what I've seen others quoted, it is on the high side. Mine was just over $500 installed (w/ tax), including software update. As for the 48 hours, sounds like a scare tactic. Mine was easily done is a day but I have had another software update take two days as the new software wouldn't take. So it is possible...

kscarrol,

Thanks again for your valuable information. I will check with the dealer tomorrow to verify pricing and upload validity.

you don't need the dealer to install and reprogram your car. save the money and just get the ipod adapter and install it yourself - a 20 min job and very easy. i did it. from the profile of your car, it already has the 'program' to recognize the ipod adapter.

this link should help you.

Help anyone,

I need to get a little more information on this iPod connector and CD changer business......

I contacted a BMW mechanic who advised me of the following:

iPod connector interface (from the dealer) = $299.95
Uninstall CD changer / Install iPod connector = $180.00
Re-program car for iPod connector = $135.00

(it sounds like a MC commercial...... Listening to iPod music in your car...... priceless..... )

He mentioned that the reprogramming can take up to 24 hours and if it does not go right, it could be more. Is this true? I am afraid that I may not have a car for more than 48 hours just because of an iPod connector .

What did I get myself into? or Is this just scare tactics?

Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. I need to make a decision soon. I hate the radio music and do not feel like carrying a lot of CDs with me.

Thanks in advnace,
If your car is under warranty, the reprogramming of the vehicle is covered by warranty per a BMW SIB.

Hi Guys,

I have a question. I have an AUX input installed on my 05 525i but no CD Changer. Will I still be able to do this mod without doing the reprogram?

cccplus,

Thanks...... I think you have saved me about $315.00. I can use that money on something else now .

I will try it next weekend, my car is at the dealer for the whole weekend ; taking care of a few things like brake noise and a thumping noise when changing gears (SMG).

I read on the SMG thread that it could be that it needs re-programming also

I will let you all know how it goes.......

I would like to get the small spoiler (low profile), I have seen it on a white 530 in my commute to work and it looks very nice. Any one of you knows what brand it is and where I could find it? Here we go with the mods.......

cccplus / Jspira,

Thanks for your input. I ordered the iPod connector from Gary (BMW R.I.), great stuff.... Ordered it on Tuesday this week arrived Friday, installed today. The DIY guide is very helpful and clear... thanks to the author......

Bad news though the iPod is not recognized by the car.... iPod shows in the upper left corner of the screen 'connected', in the main screen the BMW logo and says OK to disconnect on the bottom of the screen, but the iDrive only shows the CD option.

I am guessing I will have to take the car BACK to the dealer to have them re-program it for the iPod.

What is an SIB (Service I...... Bulletin??)? Do you have the number so that I can quote it to the dealer?

Thanks again for any help on clearing this problem now.

Hi. My first post here!
I have a E61 525i Touring from 2005 and it is prepered for the CD-changer from factory.
I also have the HiFi-package, but I don't have the AUX-line.

Is it possible to the iPod interface mod without help from my BMW dealer?
