Thanks...Appreciated...

I am New to this Board...But seems like allof the people ( including my friend Specialist) are knowledgeable. I am used to hanging around Roadfly for more than half a dozen years or so....But this E-60 Board seems real interesting & knowledgeable ( alot better than RF's E-60 Board).

I have looked around here and gotten a good handle of the subject and will talk to my service advisor to see what they say regarding the cost (part +install) ..depending upopn what I hear, it seems like it is something I can handle it myself.. Thanks for the Fine Welcome I am getting here today.

BTW: My car (550) will be arriving for re-delivery around next week or so, I dropped it off in Munich about 3 weeks or so ago. My first E-60. The Best BMW I have driven to date.. I am primarily used to a series of E-39s...

Hi aR550,

The term "Specialist" is granted by number of posts that one has posted on this forum. However, substerFuse is a true sound specialist as you will find out if you do search on BMW sound system.
subterFuse is an expert in sound system department here
Rudy is an expert in BMW TIS
Iceman is an expert in BMW business and options

We're all here lurking around for business, leisure, knowledge, etc. You name it. However, this is world best E60 forum you've ever had. It's super informative and helpful.

Anyway, welcome to the world best E60.net forum.
Sincerely,
my530i

Thanks...

I myself am a BMW fan..for almost a dozen years or so- or since I remember & especially ..since I started owning my own Beemers...I look forward to communicating with everyone and all specialists - on all topics.

I have a couple of questions regarding upgrading to M-166 wheels ( from the current 124s which came with my 550) where can I direct my questions...These are regarding Tire Pressure Monitors..?

My point was that I've seen a lot of posts around here regarding this iPod control interface.... and that the prices for it plus installation have been so high, that I frankly don't think it is justified. Some people have reported costs which far exceed the value of the iPod itself. I personally don't think that's worth it, and I'll tell that to anyone who asks.

Here is why:

1. AUX Input accomplishes nearly the same result, short of actually controlling the player.

2. AUX Input is far less expensive, or even pre-installed.

3. AUX Input is universal. iPod control only works with iPod. What if your iPod dies, and you decide to get another brand of MP3 player? With AUX, you're fine.... with iPod control you're stuck with Apple Dock Connector.

4. What if Apple releases a new iPod, and they ditch the dock connector port for some new technology? Then your BMW iPod connector is useless if you want the new iPod.

5. What if Apple revises the iPod Firmware? How will that affect the BMW solution? I simply don't know, and worry that it may not work together.

6. People are saying they lose the CD changer. (not a big deal for some people, but worth mentioning)

7. The iPod control is still rather new, and I feel it is simply not tested enough. It is more of an afterthought solution. I think that in future revisions of iDrive perhaps they will achieve a better integrated control interface, but I feel this one is not worth the extremely high price.

When I consider these issues, I just can't justify the iPod control to myself.... and I won't tell anyone else to do something I wouldn't do.

I was trying to convey that point, along with some humor. Sorry if that offended anyone.

Is that a jackass penguin?

They are my favorite penguins. Make funny noises.

A yelloweyed penguin on a New Zealand beach, south island, east coast (near Oamaru).

My favorite is the blue penguin, the smallest of the penguins (Eudyotuly Minor). There's a huge colony at Oamaru.

Penguins allways make funny noises, just like me.

I love penguins!

Since you're talking about upgrading your wheels, you could post your question in the "Parts, Accessories, and Mods" (this) forum.

One quick comment though, it's quite likely that your question has already been posed and answered so take a look and/or do some searching. If you can't find what you're looking for, by all means ask away...
