The fact that it uses a headphone jack just means it is not a direct connection.
This is a serious disappointment.

Why a serious dissapointment ?
Apart from this non-charging issue which I'm still trying to figure out, the whole thing works brilliantly - easy to scroll menus and great sound.

My Ride: 525i M-sport, carbon black, beige leather.
Thanks for posting this info. I picked up my new 525i M-sport yesterday with USB and I just assumed that the stock apple USB cable would work. I tried it out and found that while audio did come through the interface the track listings were completly garbled. It seems weird that the BMW cable has a 3.5mm jack fitted to it as the sound was coming out OK with just the apple USB cable.
I will pop back to my dealer today to get a cable. It still bugs me that after spending 25 grand on a car with the USB option costing 205 quid, I still need to go back to the dealer and spend a further 30 quid plus on a cable before I can use my iPod.

Has anyone had the problem with their ipod not being recognized or even coming on after being hooked up with the USB Audio Interface (option 6FL) cable.
To get it to work again I have to do a reset on the ipod. The good thing about is my playlists are still listed. Any iformation will be appreciated.

Aside from the not charging part (which is wired because the ipod showed it's charging) and the fact everytime I stop and start the car, the playlist has to be "reloaded", the sound is definitely better than the FM transmitter.
Do you know if there's a fix for the charging and playlist uploading problems?
