My Ride: 535ixT On Order: 2010 E61, Ordered 1/05, Est. Birth 3/09, Est. Delivery 4/09, Carbon Black, Cream Beige Dakota Leather, Steptronic, M-Sport Pkg., Type 135 18
Model Year: 2010
My experience with my 2006 530xiT was that I could only access 256 Playlists thru my iDrive and iPod adapter. I believe the same limitation might apply to your 2008 E60.
My new 2010 535xiT had the new iDrive system (with a Hard Drive - systen 4.0). I have yet to find a playlist limitation, but I have only 400 or so playlists on my iPod Classic.
My workaround for the 2006 car was to use iTunes to select the 200 or so playlists that I wanted to use for the next several weeks, then when I got bored with that, I would bring the iPod to my computer and change the selection.
