Some people have had better luck running power from the outlet in the passenger's footwell.
i have the MOST Bus adaptor that replaced my CD changer and do not have any noise. I believe the alternator noise will be heard if the cigarette lighter is used to charge the iPod.

The noise is alternator noise.
It is the result of a poorly grounded electrical source.... in this case, the cigarette charger.
There is no way to get rid of the noise completely.... unless you purchase the MOST bus adapter.
If you use the charger in the back seat area, the noise will be less than the charger in the ashtray. At least, this is the case in my car.
