Yes, you have to disconnect the battery because you have to remove the airbag wire from the airbag. Otherwise you will get an airbag error light on. Of course it is a safety issue as well when you're handling the airbags.

Removing the bowden cable is EXTREMELY easy. Once you see it, you'll get it.

How do u take the idrive cap off and the trim around the shifter? The link that u shared doesn't have instructions on that. Thanks for ur help!
