Installed an RPI exhaust in my '07 550I back in May and absolutely love it- except for the very loud drone in the car when all the windows are up. Is this normal?
I've read other posts that this does abate a bit as the exhaust breaks in, but I've probably put close to 1500 miles on my car since then and the sound is still pretty loud.
Has anyone else experienced this? Am I just paranoid?

Yeah I do too, right around 2000 to 2500 rpm?
I kinda got used to it, but am considering checking and possibly reapplying the clamp to make sure it's sealed properly.

I had it welded on...wasn't too sure about having an exhaust clamped on, considering vibration/bumps/etc. If I open the windows, it's manageable.

It takes a bit until the exhaust is fully broken in...It really started quieting down after 3000 miles...if it's still too loud, RPi also sells silencer adapters

If the drone or noise is a problem for you RPI does sell a cone for the exhaust tips which is supposed to help. I'd suggest calling/emailing RPI or Joe (trinityautosport). They take good care of their customers and can get you pointed in the right direction Good luck

Thanks...I know about the silencer cones, but just wanted to see if anybody else has had this issue. At least I know I'm not the only one!

I will give it a little more time and see what happens...

Give it some time... I experienced drone at first, but now it's fine for me...or maybe I'm just adapted to the sound.

Maybe after 3k miles, your brain started to filter the drone for your ears.

Is this exhaust really that loud?!

I've seen a bunch of videos with it and it really doesn't sound loud at all.
I guess I need to hear it in person.

I had horrible droning which cleared up at 2,500 miles. I think this is a common issue with RPI exhausts.

Welding the exhaust could also have something to do with it. From speaking with Eloy, welding the exhaust voids the warranty completely, so I used the clamp.

Give it time, it should clear up!
