And tye V1 is better than the escort, Oh just a hint Mike Valentine designed both, I think they are parent companies.

Mike Valentine designed the ORIGINAL Escort but is not affiliated with them anymore. The company he founded was Cincinnati Microwave but he left them and started Valentine Research.

It's true that the V1 is the best you can buy...

I have a 2005 545i with Active Cruise.

What will happen if I buy a Valentine 1?? Will it read false alarms off of the Cruise Control radar?

I was using the ACC with my new V1, and did not have any problems when driving from the Performance Center in South Carolina to Denver, Colorado. Three saves on that trip. It was set off by a Chevy Trailblazer (I think) brake light though once.

I am really happy so far with the V1. No I just need to hardwire it.

Nice Install 2004RType.

That is an awesome install. Very impressive work.

Just curious... I have a beltronics detector and have to hit the silence button regularly around town when it picks up door openers, etc. An install like this prevents you from reaching the detector to change settings, etc. Does the V1 work differently?

Second question... Won't the rear view mirror display be *VERY* visible to following law enforcement? An issue? Can the display be turned off easily?

From what I can see, he's mounted the V1's control on the bottom of the mirror, just below the display. Again, quite impressive.

I'd love to know more about the process involved in etching the mirror so precisely. R-Type, when you get a chance, feel free to explain things in greater detail...

Thanks for the positive comments it does look trick

As for Cops seeing it that is a rare instance the way it is done the LED are behind the glass most mirros have two piees of glass, once clear and one mirrored

Not very noticable and whenn you get stoped Cops dont stick there head in your window to look around

I do love seeing NYS Troopers shot laser at me I jam them and they look up with a dirty look while Im flying by and they are standing next to there car holding the big heavy laser gun, LOL

The way this install gets done you need to be good with electronics and schematics.

The V1 units get taken apart and several sections get remoted, you have to run a series of wires with diodes and sometimes resistors depending on the length of the run, in a Porsche they have short runs of wire so its not that critical

I use Network cable 5 pair.

The circuit boards have to be cut, componets need to get removed, jumpers made, tested then fixed in there new positions.

The photos I show of the inside of the mirror is not the way it actually is that was a test, the Phone Plugs are too big and the mirror would not close. The remote audio adaptor broke out when I cut the board thousants of a inch too much I had to take the circuit directly from the V1 itself and route the signals and stuff through the roof around the pillar SRS units into the mirror.

I have to dismantle the circuits completly in sections and hand solder each terminal on the boards, so many circuits and very easy to screw up. My eyes still hurt me

Patience is the key not to screw it up,.

Once you do that everything just plugs in permanantly

On the Mirror:

If you look any mirror has a coating gray mostly it is a special formulated paint.

You must remove the paint, paint stripper will not work properly, You have to use a formula, measured on a scale of nitric acid, chromium and some other toxic stuff.

Once that is removed, I have a steel CNC templates. I scanned the display in and created a Vector image.

The template aids in the layout, then from there you have to use a bunch of different chemicals to safely remove the coatings without ruining the mirror and glass, if you wait to long to wipe the glass can crack.

If any of you guys want these done I can do the mirror and send it to you as a direct plug in and you can take care of the rest, just email me.

Oh I will not install the volume in the mirror for anyone, unless some serious $$$$ was offered it took 6 hours alone to make it work right and fit all together.

You can remote the volume easily on the console, lower dash etc.

Oh just to throw this in for curiousity:

If I did this install with the diffusers front/rear/jammer and what you see here you cost would have been $4500, includes part and labor.

I do not do these jobs anymore just for some good clients and friends, too much work and Im not into the custom electronics end of the biz any longer.

I was at one point going to make Direct plug in kits for the C5 Vette,Viper and Porsche 996, too busy to capitilize on this now.

I posted this a few years back on a Vette Board I did 11 units in one month then I got kicked off the board unless I PAID to be on there, haha,

However here i am not promoting my biz at all, this is a persoanl offering to any fellow E60 Owner, and I wouldnt mind a few $$$ for the holidays tax free.

Enclosed is a better Pic from my Previous Jaguar S Type R

Cool, now I see how you got such a precise "etch" in the mirror --- CNC!

Quick question, on the photo of the Jag, I can see under the "L" that it says "Count/Mode"

Is that etched too or is it simply visible through the glass? (Either way, still cool... )

Another quick question, where does the audible alert emanate from? Did you put that in the mirror too?

Great install RType. I am an EE and love to do technician type work so soldering and wiring doesn't scare me at all, I enjoy that. I think you basically took the indicator portion of the V1 and put it in the mirror with some control, and that I understand. For a rear center console "brain" storage, you must have had some pretty long wire. You mentioned that you used Network Cable 5, was that the ethernet looking cable? That would be a nice clean way to do it, especially since the LEDs don't require too much power. Where did you run the wire. I would be interested in this, especially since I wouldn't want to mess with the mirror part. I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but you really need to provide more detail...you are being somewhat secretive about this install

When you get some time, just run it down from stock mirror or V1'd mirror, step by step, routing, etc. At least everything electrical. Very, very, very nice, clean install. I would love to have this for my car...I just need the car!
