I've searched a ton of threads and cannot find what I need exactly. I have my new M-sport steering wheel with shiftbuttons and wiring kit in hand, and I have already installed the SAT shifter a long time ago + BMW have agreed to give me a new VO and code the shifter buttons once installed.

So now I'd like to replace the existing m-sport steering wheel. I would like to know whether I need special tools to pull the existing wheel off; and should I disconnect the battery before I touch the airbag. What other precautions are there, and is there a DIY out there somewhere?

My car is late 2007 LCI, no active steering, no steeringwheel heater.

Thanks in advance

Our omnipresent designated driver of flat Eric has done a great writeup indeed and I don't mind proceeding on the basis of that one. However if there is a DIY out there for changing an LCI Msport wheel to an Msport wheel with gearchanging buttons, I'd appreciate a pointer. Else I'll make one which I believe could be usefull for other LCI drivers who want to do a full upgrade from a standard autobox to the sportautomatic (SAT), complete with paddles on the steeringwheel.

Navarro,

Hit me up if the old wheel is in good shape and you want to sell it. I would have to see if the LCI would work on my pre LCI. The leather is worn on my old wheel and I am itching to buy a new one...

PM member schulrog. He maybe able to assist you since he has sold kits that make steptronic cars use the Msport wheel paddles.
