the labor alone will kill the idea. I got used parts off eBay, did ALL of the wiring myself, had to order a few wiring harnesses from a dealer in europe, and took it to the local dealer twice for the programming work. Total out of pocket was about $2500. If I had the dealer do the wiring it would have added another $600-800.

For the cash involved, you're better off taking that and using it as a down on another E60 with the nav.

agreed... but I look at it this way. People on this board are willing to spend $4k+ on wheels, thousands on body kits, and once you get in the car to actually drive, you can't see or touch any of it. I get to use this $2500 mod the entire time I'm in the car. I also didn't have MP3 playback on my old M-ASK, so now I have that...paving the way for a dennison link in the future. Also, the thought of having to attach a handheld GPS to the windshield when there's this huge built-in monitor seemed a bit...ridiculous. kinda like having an ipod touch and a phone instead of an iphone.

At least, that's how I rationalize it.

interesting, but i would rather let the dealer do the whole job, as i don't like messing with that sort of thing... and the mp3 playback would be great, any price quotes on that???

adding navi and mp3 playback would be ideal, please give any thoughts you may have ragarding either of these features

then walk in to your dealer with this document, and bend over and grab your ankles. The actual kit is no longer available, but you can either buy the parts separately or pay roveractive on ebay about $4k for it. You do not need a new antenna, just remove the gps connection that currently goes to the assist module and plug the CCC into that.

I'm not sure if MP3 playback can be retrofitted by coding on the M-ASK as it is on the CCC. What build date is your 05? have you burned an MP3 CD and tried it?

I saw your post about the expense BMW'ers go to with wheels and other mods ... and you're dead on!

That said, my recommendation would be to spend far less for one of the newest wide screen Garmins that have all the latest features. AND, you can take it with you no matter what you drive or where you walk. And maps and POI's are easily and inexpensively added / updated.

When you're ready to buy a newer BMW, the iDrive will have improved functionality that will add to your driving convenience.

Whatever your final choice/decision - enjoy!

+1. I agree that people do spend a lot of money on wheels and other mods. But most of them can be removed or uninstalled for resale when you are ready to upgrade for a newer ride, but that $4k iDrive Navi will have to stay with the car and only add small value to the book value of the car.

Again, that's just our suggestion, you have to decide what is best for yourself. Good luck!!

As others have stated a $200 Garmin or TomTom will be better and it's portable. Also most late model cellphones with a data plan can access google mobile maps for free.
