No welding required, nope. The clamp they provide you with works great. I'd make sure you put some of the high-temp High-Temp RTV Silicone stuff on it to make sure it's a good seal. Not sure if it's required (in one of RPI's guides they don't use it.. in others they do..), but it definitely doesn't hurt and will ensure a good seal.
As for lifting.. I would at least back up the car on some ramps. If you're small and flexible you could maybe do it without anything else, but it won't be comfortable![Smile](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/smile.gif)
Jacking up the car could work too, but remember.. never go underneath the car with just a hydraulic jack holding it up! Jackstands are your friend.
