Hi guys!

I was browsing thru ebay, and came across this part :

http://cgi.ebay.com/BMW-M5-M6-E60-E61-5-SERIES-6-SERIES-8-8-INCH-MONITOR-TV_W0QQitemZ250281833438QQihZ015QQcategoryZ1498QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
This is an 8.8" iDrive Screen.

My vehicle - 2008 LCI 520d has 6.5" iDrive screen only.
My question is, if i buy this part, can i just upgrade my screen from 6.5" to 8.8" and have full 8.8" display in future?
Also, will this be just a plug and play thing? - remove old screen, put that clip to this screen, fit new screen, and bingo! is that it?

Please help

Thanks!

Easssy there Insane Devil ! You are going crazy with your modding ideas.

This is not going to be an easy job, i have seen the 6.5inch screen that came with the 523i that i had test driven and it certainly wasnt as impressive as the 8.8inch that i have.
But it gets the job done at lower resolutions, the main reason why the 525d has the 8.8inch screen is due to the TV function which is pretty useless as i barely see myself using it.

Hey Sahil! well, i am also not impressed with the 6.5" screen! looks just OK! but yea.. good enough to get the work done, kinda.. so would love to upgrade it if can.

@Westside: Could you please explain in more details as to waht all u had to replace... i didnt get it - the screen, the idrive and cc?

Isnt the Screen and iDrive same thing? and what is the "CC"?

Thanks !

I've never heard of anyone simply upgrading the screen and there must be a good reason why or people have just not figured it can be done. Maybe the cables are different or the resolution is fixed in the MASK so even with the bigger screen you will still only see a 6.5" image on the 8.8" screen - much like what happens on the ACM today. On the ACM even if you have the 8.8" screen you still see only a 6.5" image. That would be a complete waste of money if that happens to you.

yup, you can do it but it looks stupid. only the same 6.5" image shows on the left 2/3rds of the screen, and apparently it's a slightly lower vertical res, so the top and bottom have a few rows of pixels cut off. I think you need the different LVDS cable too.

To do it right, you need to replace the monitor, the idrive controller, swap the M-ASK for a CCC, and run a few wires. Ask me how I know.

As mentioned upgrading monitor is not straight forward. I've noticed that you have LCI so be careful if you decide to buy something from ebay since your car has the new M-ASK with the extra buttons and most probably you will need the new CCC as well (please correct me if I'm wrong); good luck finding one.

You dont really need a new CCC module. A small help from Andy showed me an easier, cheaper way to make this happen. Just sent ur second hand CCC module to Dimos in Siemens in Germany with your chasis number and he will recode the CCC module based on the chassis number of your car. No need to spend so much money for nothing.

correct, I bought a used CCC from a 6er and it worked just fine after coding.
