IDrive software update, is it nessesary?
I know that there are some splash screen changes, along with some logos and color schemes that change.
but other than that. does the iDrive (i guess its called iDrive OS) system need to be updated. (not talking about maps)
I have been reading online as to how to get to the "secret menu" but have had no luck. I know mine is old, last update was in 2009


"To access the Secret Menu:

1. Push down i-Drive knob for approx 8 sec
2. Turn right 3 clicks
3. Turn left 3 clicks
4. Turn right 1 click
5. Turn left 1 click
6. Turn right 1 click
7. Push down i-Drive knob

To get your CIP code (may be slight variations on the below):

1. Go to menu 'Versionkontrolle'
2. Scroll to the very bottom and you should something similiar to "I-05-09-510_050509", where "05-09-510" corresponds to one of the below:"

Do I really need to upgrade, is there any difference at all??
I also tried the whole To access the Secret Menu:" option but cant get it to work...

Any Ideas??

If your car is fine, there's no need for upgrade.

Simple as that.

Lol. You must work with computers.

I reiterate, if there's nothing wrong with it, don't fuck with it. Even the dealer doesn't like to do full update because there's the random probability of bricking modules. This is a known thing, and reported by many different dealerships.

Okay, the reason im asking is because when I had the Ipod adapter installed, they had to reinstall the new OS, and that changed several things. So going on that pretense. It will be the same for just the newest software... ohh well like you said, if it aint messed up, dont "F" with it...

There was a big jump in functionality only twice in the life of the idrive software. So if you are already on the Grey background Main screen you have the last major version. After that only small changes happened.

how is an update carried out? dya have to go the stealers...or can it be done yourself?? cheers
