Hi all,

What's all these talks about aluminium gear shift knobs?

BMW only have ruthenium (certainly not the cheapo aluminium) in their cars.

FYI - Ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium, and platinum together make up a group of elements referred to as the platinum group metals (PGM).

Must have some metallic content..allthought very light..whats the 7 series like?

That I-drive knob is easily explained. The knob itself is moulded in ABS plastic, which is then plated with a series of metal coatings. This is fairly common these days with everything from cameras to car parts, etc.

This is why it feels lightwieght yet 'reads' metallic.
