The V1 is the only serious detector for ECM work. But it does false a lot, and you have to learn to filter this out to find the serious threats. One other point, if you use the bluetooth with a phone, your listeners also get warned as well, which never annoys me, but drives the wife nuts. Let us know how the Blinder works, I have been toying with the idea of putting one in the 550i.

I have a V1 and Blinder set up. I highly endorse both products.

V1 rules!!!!!

I had V1 since 1994 and gave it to the guy who bought my e39 540. Bought another V1 with newer version and still love it. I also have the Escort 8500 on the FX35 but it cannot compare with the V1.

If you are going with a visible detector, i.e. windscreen mounted, the V1 is the way to go.

However, if you want an all-in-one concealed solution the Beltronics RX 75 Plus Pro series is pretty awesome. This is a very tidy and effective solution, I am having this system put into my 2008 550i on Monday.

I'm sure I'm in the minority but the Escort Solo S2 has worked great for me. Never failed to give plenty of warning. I just love the convenience of the cordless. OK, stop laughing.

Since I'm leasing I didn't want to perform surgery to hardwire a detector. But if I owned the car I'd probably get the V1.

I have and like the 9500i. As far as performance, It is my opinion that they are equal (after cruising along with about 10 V1's and two way radios). Anytime they got a Ka band and came over the radio, I already had it too and visa versa, best I could tell.

The 9500i is very quite when it needs to be. The GPS feature is kind of nice for the lockout feature and it flashes your GPS speed when it goes off (which always makes me feel a little better when it is actually a few miles per hour less than I thought I was going) and you will instintively look at it when it goes off even before looking at your speedo. Not sure about the V1 with regard to false alarms.

So I would just go with the one you like for features, style, etc... and not let performance worry you.

Most people here will say the V1 because of the arrows, but the passport still picks up signals from behind very well, it just does not tell you the direction. I can tell by how the signal comes in if they are coming up from behind. The signal gradually increases if they are coming up from behind. I am hitting the brakes immediately and getting back to the limit or +4mph as soon as I get a signal regardless of where it is coming from anyways.

HaHa, I actually tossed my cordless one away a few years ago when I got nailed and it never went off. Then I was sitting there with the cop pointing right through my car (or over it, I guess) at other cars and it never went off. Looking back that was probably laser and it probably worked fine, but 12v vs. 3v has got to give you better range.

The hardwire is a piece of cake and easily reversible FWIW. That is what sucks about leases, makes you think you are just renting the car or something.

It is your car man, enjoy it and do whatever you want to it. You can always sell it for the residual if the dealer tries to screw you at the end of the lease. I have always pocketed money selling to a thrid party and the dealer will usually just transfer it directly to the new buyer for you and you have the new buyer give you a check for the difference. With that said, I am a little concerned about the residual on this one especially when the F10 hits the market...

I lease for business purposes, but it annoys me that the conception is that it is not your car. IT IS YOUR CAR, you just choose a different way of financing it. You can always buy out the lease for whatever the residual is, whenever you want...
