I don't know if this is the reason you're looking for one, but I thought for a very long time that my vol. knob was done for, bc it looked like it peeled. A couple of weeks I was detailing my car and decided to just go to work on the vol. knob and guess what? All the residue came off and its like new now after some hard rubbing with a damp MF towel (I used no soap or cleaning products so not to scratch or stain any finishes anywhere). So if you want to, rub your knob - it might help

Haha...that's not the issue. I'm missing a volume knob when i bought my car several months ago. i'm finally trying to get it replace after my passengers kept trying to pump up the volume which i have to do it for them on the steering wheel.
