So I took my afe off after 2 years about 4 months ago after reading threads on this board and I totally agree the performance was much better without the thing. I sold it and it is gone and obviously would not buy another one due to the clear problems with it but MAN do I miss its sound. I realized that was half the fun of driving was gettin to hear that ridiculously loud sexy roar of that huge open air intake. It caused people to look constantly and sounded amazing at WOT. I also had a supersprint exhaust on in conjunction.

Well now I am bone stock with RPI scoop/kn filter and my car is so quiet. Performance is noticably better and having only 255 hp to begin with I cannot spare to decrease it just for sound but sometimes I sure miss that roar.

So people that knock AFE-I think they should be knocked for claiming increased performance but I really think it is a product that someone would and should buy to completely transform the sound of their car. If you have have 300 hp or 400 hp and you lose 20 hp then your car is still really fast and at that point to me it would be worth it for the sound. I konw everyone is different but everyone thought my car had a huge v8 in it with the AFE-not that I was posing but the fact people thought that meant it sounded loud and that was cool
That is one of the most stupid things I have ever read. No wonder companies like these stay around and charge and arm and a leg for the garbage that they sell. I will bet you that at one point (maybe even now) your car is loaded with HP adding stickers.

If the sound is what you miss you can always make an MP3 of it and just play it in a loop, that way you have the sound and the performance (maybe record a nice blow-off valve sound too, that way it'll sound like a turbo with an AFE?)

FS: AFE Intake $500.

The part has to at least be a gain of 0 hp or better. If 0 hp, it better sounds and look VERY nice.

The Dinan CAI and the RPI scoops is a sound investment.
Then back it up with the RPI exaust and you'll be one happy driver.

If you REALLY want. I have some AFE systems here that people took off and wanted me to throw them away. I would be more than happy to give it to you free of charge. Then let me dyno it, THEN let me have you race a car with the stock intake. If you let me video the entire thing, its yours free.

I love it! Do it!

On the aside Mr. RPI... there seems to be a lot of interest in an intake for our car; what would be involved with maybe prototyping an intake that works in conjunction with the rpi scoops for that awesome power? :-p

Good luck to anyone trying to make one better than the stock one. Its well ballanced and engineered. One thing you can do is wrap the stock tubing and cover the oem box. I have done that on some of my cars and it works great.

LOL. I would love to see that video!!

Well, Dinan makes a better intake than stock but I cant justify $800 for it. $400 it's a buy! RPi. R u guys seeing the post? Maybe u can also make a dual duct intake for the 545/550 *hint hint* I might just hack my intake tomorrow. i have time anyway.
