Hi all,

I am looking at changing my monitor from a 6.5 inch to a 8.8 inch monitor because my car has no sat nav as standard equipment.

The plug of the monitor on both are the same and I was wondering if it is just a matter of plug and go for the new monitor.

BMW has no idea whether it will work or not, as they don't have any info on a retrofit. Can any of you give me some comments?

I think it should work, as a monitor is a monitor because it is just a display and all computer info should be in the idrive itself....right??

My bet is that you can install the screen but the car will still only use two-thirds of it.

The larger screen in cars with nav is really configured like two screens -- the first two-thirds is used just like the non-nav cars. The last third is used to display things like current location, a map, or trip computer data.

Since the non-nav cars don't know how to address the last third, I don't think you can simply install the larger screen without upgrading the M-ASK system to a CCC system...

Thank you for your valuable information. Do you have any idea where I can upgrade the M-ASK system to a CCC system? And how much work does it involve??

Search the forums for information on a navigation retrofit. That's pretty much what it is...
