My Ride: Bmw 530d 2004
I ran into problems with my car two weeks ago while accelerating on a highway. Suddenly all the power was lost and I hardly could get the rpms up to 2000!
At first I thought it was the turbo that had broken, but it wasn't. The car limped for two weeks.
The reason was the fully clogged diesel particulate (DPF) filter that hadn't been able to go through the self cleaning process for months because of our cold season and my short town driving. So kind of it was my own fault...
The BMW says the DPF is a maintenance free part that should be changed in to a new one when it has seen kms/miles enough. The new one is about 1500? . Before going that route I wanted to try something else!
I made the actual thread to the DIY section as I feel it belongs there. This is just an "add" to get diesel owners' attention, as the clogged DPF may be one of the reasons in powerloss problems in diesel cars.
Here.
