My Ride: 07 BMW 525i Premium Package, Xenon Lighting Package, manual Transmission. Titanium Grey, 20% Tint around the back, 70% V-Kool on front. Planned mods: Style 71 wheels with Toyo Proxy 4 tires, Sachs suspension upgrade, upgraded stereo, and many more to come.
Default

Did it this morning, took me less than 10 minutes to pry off the charcoal filter which has four clips attached to the air filter top cover.

Drive to work this morning, I may be imagining things, but right off the bat, the take off (I got a manual) is a lot smoother, engine revs more freely, and I think this gets me closer to a 530i now, haha.

Drove for half an hour and you can tell the smile on my face
I used to not like the manual transmission on my E60, always have a hard time doing a smooth and fast takeoff. Not anymore!

Highly recommend anyone in the US who has these charcola filters to give this a try, I have the 07 US spec 525i manual with 7k miles on it. Should have done this earlier... This may not give me a much better 0-60 times, but it's definitely a better driving experience, and even the engine seems to idle quieter/smoother.

Thinking if I should try a K&N filter... Next thing to mod will be a short shift kit

Get the K&N filter now for $45. You'll notice even more of an improvement.

No. It's placed in the car for environmental purposes. Get rid of it. It's just restricting more air intake to your engine.

Put in a shorter knob first. Try the M-Tech knob that is offered in CA and the EU. It looks very much like the one in the Z4 M Roadster but has a silver trim piece at the bottom and it's a better fit, IMO.

Do you know where I can find a picture for this? Where can I find a part number and where I can order this from? Any more info will be great!

I should point out that the Dinan cold air intake doesn't have the charcoal filter either so I'm sure there were some hp gains with the filter removal. That also means there's no harm in removing it.
