I've been thinking of getting some 19" rims for my car and had been thinking of getting the M172's but a friend of mine is selling his HRE 540R rims.

Are they a good choice or should I look at some more 'newer' models?

Also, are 19" small for HRE style on an E60?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

Oh, and my car is a Titanium Silver. The HRE's are silver with chrome lip.

HRE 540R's are hot. If the price is good. I'd go with them.

He's selling them for about $US3200

I haven't compared HRE's pricing in Taiwan yet but somehow I think it's around 1/2 price of brandnew ones.
They were used about 2 years and are on his BMW 325i.

Make sure they fit your E60 since the 3 series have different offsets that typically only work on the Xi versions.

May I suggest iForged? They make a similar wheel for about the same price as the used hre's. You can also customize the wheels. For instance, if you wanted a polished lip with anodized centers, they'll do it for you. They've got a wide array of colors to pick from.
