How to unleash the power of a 523i ?
#1
Q1. the engine on the 523i and 525i really the same right / they have the same capcity, fuel consumptlon are almost the same. does that mean the engine on the 523i is simply a restricted version of the 525i engine
Q2. the 523i is 130kw/177bhp and 525i is 160kw/218bhp, assuming both engine are the same, what will be the most cost effective way to unleash the power on the 523i ? or just buy a 525i instead, I live in Hong Kong, the price difference is approx US$7700
Q3. Does the 523i has the same upgrade potential as the 525i ? in terms of power output ?

A "ECU remap" won't get you as much power as there is in the 525, as the engine/air intake probably is a bit different and so on. The parts, e.g. valves are probably also of lesser strength than in the 525 aswell.

I do a low annual mileage and for the type of driving I do I didn't think it was worth the extra dosh. It will have a better re-sale value here as well. A 525i owner over a 523i will be lucky to get $2000 of that $5000 back at trade-in time.
I traded from an 11 month old 520i and it was the engine that made up my mind. I don't think you will be disappointed either.

Welcome the the forum sliu_uu.
You'll ride nicely with the 523i. It is a great car.
The larger differance will be with the 530i and then with the 550i.
No offence to the HK sub-forum, but why should you guys isolate from the rest of us?
