This is interesting because 90% of people that own a E60 on the Bimmerfest forums would say that they would NEVER own a 5 series that was out of warranty.

Well yes we say those things because as well all know each part is EXPENSIVE! I've had my BMW for almost 30,000 miles already I bought it at 42,000 and paid for an extended warranty.
So far I've needed a new radiator would of been a little over $600 for the part plus labor. It was all covered... had the passenger restrains malfunction need the seat pad replace, would of been over $1000 all free on my warranty.
Little things go wrong all the time, It's just nice to know you don't have expected bills to pay when you have a warranty in place.
Now see if I was in a ford... Then by now I would of needed new spark plugs. oil changed every 3000 miles, new fuel pump assembly, new fuel regulator, new water pump, new ac condensor the list goes on.
I'd just get a honda if I were you or I hear they have an excellent deal running on the new Hyundai Genesis. lol JK
GET A BMW ALREADY! Don't listen to your jealous friend.

After getting out all the bugs left by the previous owner, I must say it's as reliable as anything mechanical with a lot of electronics. Go for it.....

Have driven mine from 95000 to 146000kms in a year and a half. Not a single problem so far, just the regular maintenance, so it's holding together way better than the Audi's I used to drive

Very reliable I think ,its just the little niggles and odd software problems which generally let it down IMHO, not to mention some clear design faults depending which model you have, nothing which should leave you stranded generally tho.......
