Well the fuel in a full tank weighs the same as a sturdy dude.

ABC
ABC, you keep bring up good points!

If you are planning on racing, do so with quarter tank of gas. Like ABC mentioned, gasoline is heavy and a full tank of gas can hurt your chances of winning.

Welcome, and you might want to check this thread out. It deals with mods/performance and with warranty issues or non-issues depending on one's view of things.

Jilo- what do you think of your 545- positives negatives?

Is the SMG smooth?
Negatives - What negatives?

Positives - Powerful. Fast. Beautiful.

SMG is silky smooth only when you have learned how to drive it properly. Otherwise, it is jerky.

Hi jiio:

Yep, everyone should get to the gym and to Jenny Craig. But, if anyone is interested in weight reduction, then just click on the "Mind Candy" link in my sig.

PS: Check out the latest on the "Just for Fun" thread. Pretty interesting.

Okay cool-

Well has anyone gotten the flywheel that Dinan offers- what kind of gains/improvements has that shown?

I read the one dudes post on dropping weight and he does have some good ideas on there which I may take up- I don't know if I'd want to get new rims though I do like the ones that the 5 sport package comes with
Weight is your best and cheapest friend when it comes to increasing performance. If you can loss about 400 lbs, you've gained about 35 hp in the 545i/550i. Dinan's claim with (with exception to the differential) have not been proven to give HP gains. If I remember correctly, Znod said his Dinan mods didn't help a bit. The bimmer ECU is too smart and will correct any minor "supposed" HP gain mods over time.

Bimmer32, you are crushing my beliefs that Dinan engine mods will increase HP.

At least you acknowledge that the differential is the real deal. The diff is definitely in my immediate future.

I like weight loss and diffs since they are, as B32 suggests, the real deals for sure. I also like drag radials if one has spin-control problems. They also are the real deal if one has the spin problem.

I like other kinds of mods too, but, at this point, only when I have seen non-manufacturer proven results based on what I judge to be competent controlled testing using either a meter, a dyno, or a dragstrip. For example, from competent testing, I know that I would get my money's worth out of several kinds of intake plus dyno turning on my Z06. But, for many cars, such test results simply aren't available.

Also, I might be willing to gamble on mods such as the Dinan mods if I was willing to do controlled before and after testing. If my tests did not bear out significant improvements, then I'd take the mods off since the last thing I would want is a modded car that is little, if any, faster than an unmodded one. In this regard, I'd leave a muffler on if I liked its sound since I would not expect any noticeable or measureable performance gains from one in the first place--unless possibly because of its use in connection with other pieces.

Yes. With a $9K VF Engineering supercharger and $2K 3.73 differential, you will come close to 4 secs. Most likely around 4.3. Enough to probably beat e60 M5, E55, and CLS55. Not a Vette Z06. Those are sub 4s.
