I'm about to swap out my wheels and tires. When my tires were rotated earlier this year by the BMW dealer, they left small marks inside the socket. I'm assuming it was from the powered lug gun touching the walls of the socket. I really don't want the same marks on my new wheels. Is there anything I can do or recommend to prevent this?

I was thinking of going to a local Porsche dealer versus my BMW shop.

Just put electrical tape around the adapter......electrical tape is nice and soft.

So should I tell them to hand torque the lugs with the tape on the adapter, or is the powered gun ok so long as tape is on the adapter?

Schwaben Protecta Socket Set Torque by hand only.

Or wash your wheels and place electrical tape in the wheel's sockets before going to the shop. I always wash my wheels before going in, so that any shop damage will be apparent when I pick up my car.

Oh I didn't read your post properly, I though you were doing the switch...hmmm Yea I like the idea of putting tape on the lug well on the wheel.

hand torque only.
A lot of shops won't do this unless you ask.

Otherwise....tell them if you scratch, you buy!

Per cleung, these look like they're suitable for use with an impact wrench as well as a hand / torque wrench.
