In this pic there's 545i, 530d (M5 look) and 530d from left to right.
You can clearly see the difference between the 19" and 20", but I actually like the 19" look in this pic. Somehow the car looks more like it's meant for driving!

Opinions?

To each his own, as usual, but I do think the wheels on the 530 look smallish. Marko's ride look better though but it's mad low and 20s would not have looked bad on that one either.

For rubbing issues I don't see why anyone else would have problems when I don't have it, except for LARGE rolling bumps/dips in high speeds. My suspension setup should for sure be the one of the worst from that point of view. Take into consideration also that I run 255/35 tires so they are rather high and a little too wide and my shocks have 155000kms on them so they are not funky fresh.

Phantoms as 20s.

As you know, the 19s vs 20s question has a lot to do with the rim style and the suspension. Getting the width correct is obvious, but I think you need to be careful on tyre height, like Hilden mentioned above. Obviously if you could fit some kind of "standard" size that is fitted to other BMWs (e.g. 7er), then that may help sourcing sensibly priced rubber?

No idea why, but my 19" rims which I took from my previous E60s and put on my current Touring seem to look bigger on the Touring. The 19s look great on Marko's ride, but it is slammed like crazy and in general I wouldn't use a Touring as a point of reference for your E60.

Thanks for your thoughts .

I'm also considering time attacking my current wheels, please check another topic.
It's not that I definitely want new wheels, I really like my current ones. I think it's just a little change for a while I'm after...

I'm really sceptical about going 20" . Looks like it's all up to luck if the tires will rub or not.
Here's member's Marko H's ride with 19" setup. I don't think they look too small .
Absolutely not...and even if it wasn?t lowered that much I?d still like it.
19" will look big enough, considering the fact, that those 20" will be PITA when driving on our shitty roads...

But those Phantoms would def look good.

If I was to choose between the two it would be the first one. However, I would never put these wheels on my car UNLESS I had a seriously badass brake kit to show off because those are very open.

I barely rub with the 245s and 275s on 8.5s and 9.5s respectively, at 18mm offset. Either get a wheel with a 22ish offset front and rear at those widths or do the 235/265 tire setup. From the back the 265 and 275 will look pretty much identical but will be just narrow enough to keep from rubbing.
