just what the title says. lets start with the basics.
2004 530i with i believe the logic7 system...(i have tweeters in the front doors, mids on the front doors and mids in the back dash. I have a sub somewhere because it sounds REALLY good for a factory system when the bass hits. so thats 7 speakers unless the mids act as a sub and are that good).
I have IDrive with no navigation. I do however have the BMW/Alpine ipod integration module plugged into the harness that would usually plug into the 6 disc cd changer.
the IDrive has a 6.5'' screen and i have the knob in the center console to control the idrive system.(thats how i know i have idrive)
anyways... It does not have an auxiliry input installed in the vehicle. I want to install one but im reading that i will have to enable MP3 at the dealer. going to the dealer isnt a problem but whats scareing me is im reading that it might not be possible on a car of my age. the reason for adding the aux in is so i can add "NavTV" to the in dash screen and i need some way other than an FM transmitter to send sound to the speakers. can someone please help me out and clear up a bit of confusion? ive read a few places where i may not be able to enable because my car is too old. also im wondering if my car has a "CCC" system and what does that mean? one person asked me if it was MASK or CCC when i was inquiring about video interface for putting image onto the screen. They also asked if it was fiber optic! i dont no and of this crap. please please help me out. im a new owner and have been searching for the last week but am very slow to get any info even resembling what im asking. thanks.

well that helped out quite a bit as far as the acronyms are concerned. so is one fiber optic and the other isnt? i think my car is fiber optic because i unplugged the ipod interface and the wire harness was hanging in the glove box. i was fiddling around with it for a bit and figured i would turn the radio on. when i hit the button, a bright red LED from the tip or the wire harness started blinking. its not some kind of light meant to be seen. its in the same place a metal connector or prong would be when you plug the harness into the ipod interface. im wondering is that what fiber optic is? im just guessing becuase ive never messed with anything that advanced yet. so i figured if its different , i must be F/0.

Its a retrofit. I dont believe you need mp3 enabled to have aux input. As per the sib (service bulletin) It will say your vehicle is before the production date most likely(for the mp3 enabling). my 05 545 was but i tryed it anyway. It all works great! I work at the dealer so i have the luxury of tinkering with it when bmw says it shouldnt or wont work. Not sying your def will but tell them to just try and push it through anyways. I also have nav tv installed. Its SWEEETT!!

yes, fiber optic uses light transfer to transfer data, sound etc..., all e60's have fiberoptics.
and you can check if you mp3 enabled by burning an mp3 cd and installing in your car. It will play and show song titles if it is enabled, otherwise it will read no disc

thanks man. i really appreciate it. i would say i love you, but i already have a beer.
so i should just tell them to try and install it anyways and see what happens? if it ends up not going through, i guess there is no installing an aux input?
as far as Fiber optic is concerned, i should have absolutely no problems with the install of a nav/tv interface even though i dont have nav right? i have been narrowing it down to about 2 makers. ... Nav tools ....and , tvandnav2go.
which one do you prefer?
