This part was missing when I bought my car and I'm keen on getting a new one.
Seems like the same silver trim pieces in the middle and passenger vent, but it's larger than the rear ones.
The piece I'm looking for looks just like these.
Does anyone know of a source? Are these exact trim pieces on any other BMWs? It drives me crazy, but not to the point that I buy a $50 complete vent on ebay and hope to pry out this small accent piece. Is that my only option? TIA.

I was hoping that there was a BMW pick and pull or similar websites here that I see overseas. Ugh.

Yea, I can just as easily pay the $40-45 to an online OEM parts supplier and pry that little piece out of the vent housing instead of doing the whole swap. I just worry about both a) paying $45 for a tiny, tiny piece of plastic and b) breaking said $45 piece of plastic trying to pry it out of the new vent. I guess I could try replacing the whole piece.

Might be best to replace the air vent itself. I believe you are on LCI and based on this:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...09&hg=64&fg=05
It is part #4 and costs about $37.
In case you don't have this info already here is how to remove that specific trim from the dash:
