Yeah.....it's amazing the difference some wheels can make. I feel like I got my real car back today when I put my 19's back on. I have another question re: the 138's...when did BMW stop making them with that little lip around the outer edge? My old 530xi and the newer 528's with 138's don't have that lip either....smooth all the way to the edge.
My old rims, no lip:

Here's to OEM 138's... Everyone's had them on their e60's....

My Ride: 2006 M5 with many mods....
It must REALLY suck living where it SNOWS! We in SoCal only need one set of wheels and tires although lots of us have more than just one set

Nooob question: you can remove your spliter?
We are talking about the front spliter correct?
I have the same wheels / tires set up here in Minnesota.
You SoCal guys don't know what your're missing when it comes to winter sports

I'm no doubt over generalising here, but I just don't get it... You guys state side go for the big 20s or 21s in summer, but only 17s in winter On my last E60 I had 18" with 245s (front & rear) and drove it through snow without any issues -- on one occasion whilst skiing I had to take about a half a meter of snow off of and from around my car, and then drive it up a hill, and the tyres gripped fine. I am now running 19" with 245s front and 275s rear. Now that wasn't exactly what I wanted, I was after 19" with 245s front and rear, but I forgot to give my BMW dealer clear instructions. That said, I have been driving on snow again this year and had no issues. If you clean your rims regularly they also survive the winter / salt / grit without an issue. They naturally won't look mint at the end of the season, but IMHO its better than running 17s.
So why do so many of you compromise on rims through winter ??

Ok, I'll give you that one!
As always, its a matter of compromise. A lot of it is probably what you are used to and also if everyone else runs on 17s / smaller rims in winter, its an easier compromise to make.
It still stikes me as such a large compromise for those going from 20s etc.
