Horsepower chip
I've been told that there is a chip that can be installed to increase horsepower and performance. (Mine is a 2008 535xi twin turbo). I mostly drive highway for work travel and I am looking for that extra throttle response for passing (although it's pretty good as is!) and for that occasional punk at that stop light in his 5.0 Mustang that doesn't know what he's up against!
So what are the pros and cons with installing a performance chip? What are the best choices to go with? Would a performance chip diminish the life of the engine if I didn't abuse it? I bought the car because for the possibility of a 250,000+ life expectancy. So installing a chip isn't that important to me. I just thought it would something cool to have.
I look forward to your comments and feed back!
Thanks,
Rob

Performance or longevity. Pick one.
Even putting your car in Sport mode will put additional wear on your motor.
Really though, you're probably going to be fine with a 'chip' tune on your car provided you don't get too carried away.

I have had the burger chip in since (JB4) 45k. Now 103k and still love every second of it! I'll turn it off every once and a while just to see how slow it used to be... I think coupled with the pedal device would feel incredible.

I also have a JB4 G5 and dual cone intakes from Burger Motor Sports. As others say the difference between stock and the JB4 are night and day. If you are able to stay lightly on the go pedal you might even see an increase in mpg. I did.

Like West said performance or longevity. Doing a tune will make your engine components wear quicker and your maintenance interval will be shortened. With that said the car is a different beast with a tune. Many run the bms jb4 piggyback and some of us run a Cobb Accessport flash device. I prefer the cobb due to ease of use, very easy to install and uninstall. Also if you become more advanced you can make your own custom map like the E30 map I'm running and soon a E50 map.
