Don't mention it. Couldn't resist the low hanging fruit.
I hope the weather in Vancouver improves cuz my mother gets really depressed when it rains there. You can imagine she's depressed a lot of the time!

It's really crap weather now. Last night was raining all night and heavy winds. It's sort of bright but totally cloudy and drizzling. Most people were telling me that it's normally good weather from May till the end of Summer. Doesn't seem like it this year...

Also, it's Victoria Day tomorrow, and it's going to be pizzing down.... Nice.

Hi Petri again

From your first post on this topic, you said something about putting the interface in the space where the CD Changer is.

Do you NOT have a CD CHanger then???

The interface that is on offer by Dominic on the group buy does NOT have long enough cables to go to the glovebox.? This version of the interface is small enough to fit right behind the iDrive screen.? You would then run video cables to your sources in the glovebox.

You also need to think about where you will put the infrared receiver 'eye' for the interface. It is a very small thing with 3 wires coming out of it and it connects to a socket on the interface box.? The wire is about 50 cm long ONLY!!!

I would suggest that this eye could by mounted on the iDrive screen itself, where I mounted my Xantech receiver.? Don't worry, you won't have to do anything to the iDrive screen at all. There are slots in the plastic at the top and you will be able to poke this infrared receiver through one of the slots.

All the Best

Hi,

Here you go:
-Yes, I've got 525 touring
-Yes, I don't have the CD changer... there is some room to be filled. See the picture.Hobi's Custom A/V System-dsc05799b.jpg
-I don't have AUX input yet but that could be easily fixed.

-I was planning to put atleast this Lacie's hard disk you got also and possible and maybe additional portable DVD player. I need also DC/DC converter for the SilverScreen (what's yours exactly).

- OK, if the I-Drive Interface can be fitted behind the screen that's fine... I just have to get other cables to go glove box then ... (kind of prewireing for the devices that I don't have to open the screen so often to get access to the cables)

Anyway this kind of stuff is described here (found it in old thread). http://www.venturatechnology.com.mx/PDF/VE...NSTRUCTIONS.pdf . This doesn't tell the power source solution either...

-How many watts it could handle ? Does it use only one fuse... or could I have several similar 12V sources available with their own fuses ?

I'd love the idea of having all the connectors available behind the glove box and ready for use like plug and play.

I could also put normal on/off switch after this 30G terminal of course... first I should now what it is....

So after having this core infrastructure solved... I could easily play around with different variations of media sources etc... otherwise what a waste for good I-Drive screen... to be honest NAV in Finland would be totally waste of money, maybe some TAXI drivers have some use for it....

About the only thing that seems to be true weather-wise in YVR is that September usually has better weather than June. The Indian summers are glorious, but June is notoriously unreliable.

I'm off to Paris in a couple of hours. At least the weather there is predictable. I hope I get a new 320d from Hertz when I arrive.

Hi All

I have just received one of the NEW No-tuner units from Dominic (navwithtv.com) - the same one that is being offered as a "group-buy" on this forum.

Obviously I have not been able to test it yet since my car is about 5,000 miles away from me at the moment , but I have taken some pictures of the unit and the bundle of wires. At least I can give you as much info as I can for the moment:

Here is the unit looking from the front of it:
Hobi's Custom A/V System-e60_68.jpg

As you can see, there are 3 RCA Video inputs, No.3 being the backup camera I think. The V4 connector is not used even though there is a cable provided for it. I'll ask Dominic exactly what this V4 is for.

The S/W socket (3 pins) is not used. Again, I'll ask Dominic. The IR one is for the infrared receiver (3 pins again).

Here is the reverse of the unit:
Hobi's Custom A/V System-e60_69.jpg

12V Power is self-explanatory. Navi/Back: Back is used to switch the unit into reverse camera mode. You wire it up to the reversing lights and it forces the unit to switch to Video Input 3 so that you can see what's behind you on the iDrive screen. LBD OUT and IN are the connections to the iDrive screen.

Overall, the unit is 12cm wide, 9cm deep and 2.5cm thick. It weighs about 400gm.

Here is a top view image with all the cables:
Hobi's Custom A/V System-e60_70.jpg

The black bundle on top of the interface is the IT receiver. The remote control is the same as the one supplied with the TV-Tuner version of the interface (the one I have in my car currently and is shown at the beginning of this topic.)

The interface is small enough to fit in the space between the passenger airbag and iDrive screen.

All the Best

Hobi
