I was at Johns shop Motorcepts today. Got my angle eyes installed. (I will make a separate thread for that). While there I also got coding done. I had installed HID fogs last week and the flickering problem was getting to me. I had thought after getting rid of the bulb check via coding I would have no more problems.

Sadly BOTH my HID fogs still flicker at idle/stop. They are fine when driving and sometimes they don't flicker when I idle/stop. But 13/15 times if I am at a stop or at a light they flicker. With the engine off no flicker no issue no nothing.

I know its not the ballast because I actually pulled these from my 08 TL and they were working fine. I have the same kit in my lowbeams and they have been fine for a year. What can the problem be?

Are you sure its not the ballast? I had a set of fogs that developed this type of problem and i was able to correct it with canbus cancellers. (although the fogs never did throw an obc error code). I ended up buying a new set from Motorcepts shortly after that and haven't had any problems since.

Pretty sure. It worked fine on the other cars. And it works fine when car is off. Did your set work fine when the engine was off even with the bad ballast?

It's either bulb or ballast issue. Lower quality kits usually have this problem, not to say that better quality ones can't have this happen as well (but it's not suppose to).

Thanks for chiming in Simon. I think of you as a lighting guru. You and John both LOL. Anyways any idea why they don't flicker with engine off or when driving? And why don't they flicker in other cars?

Also as a side note........ Both bulbs are from different sets. I had two sets of 8000k bulbs and while the right bulb installed perfect the left bulb messed up and I had to use the other bulb from the other set. And when they start flickering I start getting static in my speakers even if I am listening to ipod or cd. Could this be a simple grounding issue of the ballast/dirty connection?

A video of that nonsense.

This is exactly why I never bothered with HID fogs and LED turn signals, etc etc - I just can't deal with this crap on a daily driver. It's a great-looking mod though. And, I'm sure John will stand by his work - you didn't even have to post this thread, he'd have taken care of you in a minute. I know he's good for that from experience Never let anyone down.

Thanks for the response V but this is my own HID kit that I got online. Its 1/3 of the cost that Johns kit costs.

Actually, without going into the technical details, this is the reason why that nonsense is happening. As you know, the electrical system in our cars are pretty sensitive and fickle with what works and what not. Unfortunately, that kit you have in there is not "quality" enough to play nice with our E60.

Test fit or just buy one of John's kit, and you won't have that problem -- plus the fog light errors.

As for the flickering. It probably is flickering when your car is in motion, just that you can't visibly notice it when you're driving.

Vlad, it's not my kit. THAT's the problem. Most kits that even with cancellors REFUSE to work with BMWs. My stuff just plugs right in and works flawlessly. I told Khan what he needs to do. One easy solution: get my ballasts.

Ya its the ballast. I spent my time today removing the damn ballasts and trying to fix my connection, etc. Nothing. My kit was actually $90. The company who I bought it from is sending me slim digital canbus ballasts, if they work great....otherwise back to John I go.
