Has anyone tried to change the fog lamps using HID conversion kit? what brand? how much? how hard was it to install them? is there any warning that lights up after the conversion?

Not sure about a conversion kit, but if all you're after is a "whiter" light just swap-out the bulb. There were some threads that illustrated how to do this. I'll see if I can find one of them.

My Ride: '05 545i, silver gray, black leather with anthracite maple wood, sport package, premium sound, navigation, cold weather package, electric rear sunshade, folding rear seat, satellite radio prep, PIAA 4150K fogs, red rear reflectors, hardwired Valentine One
I used the instructions in the link above, and installed PIAA Xtreme White 4150K bulbs. Still halogan, but the color temp matches the BMW xenons (which are 4200K) very well. Very easy to do, no performance issues (I've used these bulbs for many years on other cars), only problem is they're not sold in US stores, so I found them on eBay. I think they were around $50. You'll notice the foglamps appear yellowish in color. Actually, they may very well be the OEM bulbs. It's possible the Hamann front apron uses the OEM foglight bulb fitted into a Hamann foglight socket.

Hamann said the parts left Germany yesterday so maybe still chance for getting them before IAA.

I don't know what the difference is. My guess would be color of light (maybe?).
At any rate, you should be OK using the PIAA's as long as they're 55W 12V bulbs. If you go higher wattage, you might run a risk of burning or excess heat production.

5000k Color Temperature
Our HID retrofit kits are top quality kits that will replace any standard (9006/HB4, H7, H1 or H11) light bulb in ANY vehicle with a REAL HID bulb. These may be used to either upgrade your fog lights to HID or to upgrade your halogen headlights to HID (except for E46 models).
