Its time to select tires/wheels for the winter. I?ve noticed the car getting alittle loose in the tail during cold mornings, no doubt the sport tire compounds not up to snuff.

My BMW SA said most go with the tire rack, as the prices are tough to beat. ($1,000 to $1,500 for a tire and wheel package). He said a 17 ? setup would be the optimal as the winter tire is taller given the higher profile. I also checked Ebay and unfortunately started looking at more than just winter wheels. Here are my initial thoughts. Pretty indifferent on the snowtire as they're all around the same price.

1) Go with ASA 18?s with all season tires, as snowtires are overkill in Chicago.

2) Go with ASA 17?s with winter tires. Grip insurance for bad conditions.

3)Go with 19 inch all season tires from Ebay and select a cool wheel style. Anyone see the rims style from Needspeed?

4) Any suggestions?

If I were you, and you will have two sets of tires, Get the 17's and get good snow handling all seasons.

Get wheels you can easily get the salt off of. The when spring comes put your better summer tires on.

I wouldnt go 18 or 19 if you already have them for summer.

You know as well as I that Chicago hasnt received the bad snows we used to but we still get 3 or 4 snows where you wish you had snow tires or all wheel drive.
