I've got a 2004 545i with the Dinan Stage 1 suspension upgrade. I recently ordered the Style 166 rims (M5 front and M6 back) and had Michelin tires (255/40 R19 front and 285/35 R19 rear) mounted on them. This new set up was to replace the stock Style 124 wheels (running 245/40 and 275/35 front and back, respectively).

It's clear upon mounting the set that this tire/wheel combination is too tall and won't work (I should have done my homework beforehand but that's another story...). I am trying to figure out what optons I have at this point (as it's becoming clear the shop I'm working with is not experienced w/this).

Is anybody running the M5/M6 Style 166 rims on a 545i with the Dinan Stage 1 suspension upgrade? If so, what tires are you using and what has your experience been?

It seems it should be possible to run these wheels on my car (with different tires), but I certainly don't want to order another set of tires that won't work. Likewise, my local shop doesn't appear able to provide good guidance and I'd like to get some other perspectives. I've done a search of the archives and gotten some info but would appreciate some more direct feedback from folks.

Thanks.

The OEM recommendation for non-M5 tires are 245/35 & 275/30.

+1 It is not the Dinan Suspension, but the tires you are running. You running M5 Tire Sizes on a Non-M Car. I just installed my OEM 166's on 245/35/19 and 275/30/19 tires and there is no rubbing at all.

+3 No problem with the wheels - it's the tires causing your trouble.

Appreciate the feedback (and the forum welcome, Hyper-545i) - I am so glad to hear that folks are successfully running these wheels. It was a major drag when I went to pick up the car expecting these great new wheels, only to find these complications (actually the wheels and tires did look great, just unrideable).

The Dinan suspension upgrade does not lower the car that much (about 3/4"), but given where I am at this point, it'd be great to hear that someone is using the M5 wheels on a vehicle that has been slightly lowered.

Thanks.

yes BW even with the H&R sport springs that are more agressive than the Dinan's no rubbing unless the car is packed and going at high speeds on a real messed up road.

I think my H&R sports are at least as low as Dinan and I have no rubbing at all (even with adding 10mm spacers in the rear). I have 245/35's front and 275/30's rear (next time might go with 285/30's if they are available/affordable). With different tires you will be fine.

IceyTys has a 545i Sport and lowered Eibach Springs. No issues. The car looks great! Check out his posts and his pics.

Appreciate all the shared info. I've ordered Michelin PS2 245/35 and 275/30 19s. Should be able to put them on the car next week. I am really looking forward to it, as the wheels looked great on the car last week (even if the tires were too large).
