Hi. I took my 535 e60 2007 pre LCI car to a local car audio installer to have a 12" bandpass active sub fitted in to the boot. The guys there wired in the power and tapped in to the rear deck speakers to provide an output for the sub. However when they tried to install the sub, it keeps cutting out. They tried another sub which does exactly the same. They tell me it is getting enough power and they bench tested both subs and they work ok, it's like the car keeps cutting it out.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this going?
The guys at the audio centre said they would try to find out a way round it and get back to me but as yet I have heard nothing.
I said I would see if any of you guys could help.
Cheers

do you have the hifi option? if so, they need to tap the outputs on the subwoofer amp on the left side of the trunk. The rear deck speakers are high-pass filtered so you won't get much of a sub signal there.

This may be a dumb suggestion, but did they install a HI-LO converter after tapping into the speakers? I've had this problem before and like felix stated, they are a high-pass.

the rear speakers are high pass, and depending on how the amp is setup it may be low passed and a certain freq. and therefore not playing.

Well the sub kicks in and works for like a few seconds then cuts out, then in, then out etc

Just spoken to the audio installers who say they tried tapping in to the speakers, then the amp in the boot and both times the sub kept cutting out and when it was running, it was no where near as loud as it should be. It's not the boot being well insulated either because these guys fitted one in to an Audi RS4 no problem the day before and it was very loud. we are talking about a 1800 watt sub!
Still no joy from them and they don't have an answer for me.

try tapping into the output for the underseat subs from the amp. You may not need a hi lo converter if the amp in your active sub does this internally (which I hope your audio store would know)
