Hi all, I have a e60 3.0dse on a June 04 model. I have just purchased what I believe is a compete M SPorts steering wheel with steering column for my car. Problem is it does not fit on. Speaking to BMW they suggest a new slip ring but looking at what they have provided it still does not seem clear to me.

Firstly, the non sports wheel has the air bag connector which goes into a small module based within the wheel which leads onto a connector that fits onto the left port on the slip ring which has 3 torx fittings (I believe this includes the connections for the multi functional part). The right port has no pins in it and is unused.

Secondly the sports wheel has the identical connector from the air bag that goes straight into the right port of slip ring rather than the small module. The second connector (I believe is the for the multi functional part) goes into the left hand side port on the slip ring.

The slip ring that BMW provided looks identical to the one on the car but with the right port having two pins inside. The other problem is that behind my slip ring there is a metal pin that would need removing or cut to allow the sports wheel to fit.

So my problems are have BMW given me the wrong slip ring, where does the airbag connect into and what happens to the silver pin that comes from behind the slip ring.

Thanks for the point of direction. A couple of questions

1. Will a pre 06 sports wheel have the brains attached
2. Will the airbag from the post 06 fit onto a pre 06 wheel. Either I sell the wheel ex airbag and source one without..
