I wanted to upgrade my headrest to the 08 with better support but was told by my SA that this is not possible. Dealership gave me an 08 5 series as a loaner in my last service and it was really relaxing to drive besides the seats.
Has anyone did any upgrades or modifications on their own?

Is there any decent looking after-market add-on that could make our sport headrests a bit more useful for the driver? (Fellow PhotoShop nuts: don't bother photo-suggesting one of those airplane blow-up neck pillows duct-taped to the stock headrest...
)

I have no issues with both the new designs of headrest for comfort. Just can't understand the price of 450usd....
I don't understand why my SA claims there is electrical wirings to be changed. I would attempt this provided that I get a good price on the headrest.
Thanks for the feedback all.

I asked the same question. It's expensive because of the new whiplash protection that is offered with the headrests. They apparently move forward in a crash - which explains the elec wiring.
I decided not to go fwd with the headrests due to cost
