well i have a friend who bought racing dynamics headers for his car, and turns out theyre the wrong ones, theyre made for the m54b30 engine, which by luck happens to be my engine, naturally my friend wants to get rid of these and bought them for around 800 total, and is offering to sells these for 750 to me, or sell them on other forums/ebay for 800
now 750 at my age is quite the price, so im wondering, what kind of gains can i expect? are there any cons to this? i realize in CA the carb emmisions are very strict, and i have a smog check coming up in a couple years, and every other year after that, so is it worth the hassle to take these out everytime? (unless someone can hook it up with a "friendly" smog tester ) just chime in with your opinions, facts, anything will help me to make this decision, thanks

headers will increase your horse power I would say about 10-15 hp but you will lose a little low end torque. The real downside to headers is that they are very load, in my mind to load for a e60, I've heard them on e46's with and without aftermarket exhaust. with aftermarket exhaust in my mind is undrivable as a daily driver. without aftermarket exhaust is still very load and definitely gets everyones attention. Also $750 is very pricey considering that there are replicas on ebay and euro-spec.net for about $150 and these have been tested by many guys from e46fanatics.com and work very well. lastly because you are in CA do you really want to take them out everytime you have to go for a smog test? The headers will also throw a O2 sensor code, there is ways around this for the e46's but I'm not sure about the e60's maybe someone else can chime in about that.

hope that helps

I think what our 530s need is more low end torque than hp. And headers don't give you torque gains. Save your money.
