I've read a post in this forum saying that the BMW's recommended maximum wheels size for the xi models is 18". But has anyone actually put 20" on the xi? Would it rub the fender or any trouble?

No joke at all! A lot of E60.net members has done that already. But I have yet to see someone with a Xi has done that so I wonder if that's possible.

Take a look at this setup. It's one of the nicest I've seen. I can't think of any reason why the xi would be any different. http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=126502

Actually, the xi is a lot different. The wheel hubs are outset 23mm further in the front and rear, making rubbing a serious problem with almost all aftermarket 18", 19", and 20" wheels. This has been discussed at length elsewhere on this forum. With 8" width rims, you need a >40mm offset. With 8.5", >45mm. With 9", >50mm. The diameter doesn't really matter as long as you stay within the proper aspect ratio (i.e., within or close to the same diameter of factory wheels; of course this applies to any E60).

So does it means spacers would solve the problem?

What about the factory M-package style 135 rims from a regular e60? Can that be fitted on the Xi?

BMW publishes a list of all of the wheels that they offer that will fit various models of their current cars. You should be able to get this information from the dealer parts department. OR for $25 for 24 hours access to technical information go to www.bmwtis.com. There you can print out lots of information relating to a specific series of BMW. Access for 30 days costs $300 and for a full year is $2,500. Access is ONLY available from PC running Internet Explorer.

Better yet, you can look at wheel options for the E60 for free on RealOEM.com.

For example, here are the staggered 124's for the xi (ET = offset, so 43mm offset for front 18x8, and 55mm offset for rear 18x9).

A good start, but RealOEM.com does not show the entire array of BMW wheels for every car. For example, I looked under 550i and they do not show the style 124 or 125 among all the others available and recommended, including recommended tire sizes for each.

No, spacers do NOT solve the problem. You'd need the "opposite" of spacers, which is obviously impossible. Normal offset E60 wheels will stick out further - sometimes too far - on an xi.

The normal Style 135 wheels will "fit", but the fronts in particular will be sticking out too far. So, what you can do is get the Style 135 wheels intended for the xi:

Quick Reply: Has anyone put 20" wheels on the xi model?
