I had the Escort Solo S2 (Wireless) for about a year. Got 2 tix with it. Finally decided to cough up the extra $100 and go with the V1. I got the V1 1 1/2 years ago and haven't had a single ticket yet. I live by the arrows and love this detector. The new 9500 might have more bells and whistles, but the V1 has been outstanding. And trust me, I speed A LOT. I'm a crazy NY driver that loves to speed. I also have to agree with ECF, in that the upgrades with Valentine are simple, hence the reason the body style of the V1 has never changed. Smart move on their part.

So what im hereing you say is that the V1 radar detector is the best one to get. Or which one. first off I dont drive that fast maybe 10mph over the speed limit at any given time, so Im not even sure if I need one.
If you only drive 10mph over the speed limit, you don't need a detector. 10mph over is not worth it to them. Once you start pushing 20mph or double the limit in slow speed zones, you're asking for it.

Yikes 65 on 35mph would have been a killer ticket and 4 points? Ouch! Insurance costs will go insane.. Sorry for you!

What do you guys do when you get tickets? get lawyer and take points off?

No just a regular busy street, no schools around, the sun was in front of me and so was the cop.

Actually the experience was quite painless, other than the $95 I had to pay. I go to a website, I guess it takes an hour, and go through traffic school there. Upon finishing the course, the ticket just "disappears" and isn't held against me in any way... no insurance hike, infact if I get a ticket the next day, they would have never know I got a ticket the week prior.... I guess this is the new way they handle tickets in Lake County Illinois. Lucky for me... I don't have to go to traffic school.

It's a bummer that the Sirf3 GPS data will not be available from the unit in realtime. Otherwise I'd have my name on the preorder list. I'm currently using USB and bluetooth GPS mice to feed coordinates into the navigation system and having this as an option on the detector just makes sense. I currently use the V1 and would get the 9500i in a heartbeat if they added this feature.
