theres an intresting mod for the 335i's where you disconnect some plug in the back, and it opens up the valve or something make the cars exhaust note ALOT better sounding... checkout e90post for details, wonder if 535 would be similar...

That'll be the golf tee mod. Not sure if this is applicable to the 535i. Can anyone chime in?

On the 335i, only one muffler is used on normal acceleration; hence, you see on most dirty 335i exhaust with one tip having more carbon than the other. There's a butterfly valve that BMW uses to cut down on exhaust sound during normal acceleration.

On the 535i, I think there is only one muffler with 2 exhaust tips (I'm probably wrong). Hence, no butterfly valve.

On the other hand, a resonator is a preforated core straight through exhaust component used (engineered) to eliminate or reduce certain frequency sound at certain engine rpm (usually around the 90 hz frequency range and 1500-2200 rpm). Removing the resonator will not give you a more "aggressive sound" but it will give you more "droning." If you want a more aggressive sound (and some droning my accompany it depending on your setup), you need to work on replacing the rear muffler.
