I have had written confirmation that the 525d LCI can be remapped to 271 PS and 591Nm by the Hartge UK agent.

These figures are very close to what a remapped 530d achieves (275PS & 596Nm).

If you prefer, they can remap the 525d to 231 PS and 500Nm to make it roughly the same output as a standrd LCI 530d. I am not sure why anyone would choose to have 40PS less though.

Whlist the cost is higher than others, this is the second highest output I have seen claimed for this engine and from a reliable source to.

The usual cost is ?1397.85 + VAT for 271PS and ?1091.72 + VAT for 231 PS.

They will however give a 10% discount on these rates which will also apply to other E60 BMW diesels.

DMS charge ?595 + VAT for 245 hp and 520Nm and would probably give a discount.

The question then is, is the extra 26 horses and 71 Nm worth the extra ?700+?

The 271 PS would put it pretty close to a pre-LCI 535d.

I am tempted to go the whole hog as it were, what do you think?

Although the power values will give a good indication of performance, do you know if there is a difference in power delivery, i.e. where it will bring improved performance?

I have read that these can vary from remap to remap; some have better performance at higher revs, e.g. for higher speed acceleration, and others bring in the power lower down for improved standing start performance.

Any info about this or even the possibility to do a test drive? The likes of DMS and Hartge typcially have test cars available.

Very good questions. The power curves are on Hartge website, and show that the remapped 525d is very close to the standard output for a 535d (pre-lci). Certainly, the torque curve looks less peeky than some.

Test drives would be good but hard to get in practice.

For auto trans, 0-62 should pitch in at around 6.3s - standard is 7.7s...current 530d is 6.8s with 235hp...

If you go with Hartge you still have warranties.. not the case with DMS I think?

This is interesting since I was in Munich last November, called Hartge and they said that they can only do the remap in Hartge HQ in Germany.

Out of interest, which company quotes an higher output than Hartge?

I have previously been led to believe the 525d uses a different turbo & injectors to a 530d and so can't be mapped as high as a re-mapped 530d, only to the point of a standard one.

DMS does warranty engine issues not covered by BMW as a result of the upgrade.

In Holland Hartge NL performs the chip tuning for ? 1350,- + 19% VAT, so probably it's cheaper to do over here.

This is the 270 hp upgrade.

When chiptuning is done through BMW dealers in NL by AC Schnitzer (for a mere 2350,- + 19% VAT) to 230 hp you will keep your guarantee,
in all o2ther ways/companies guatantees will be void.

Yes I have read lots of conflicting info on this too. I asked a BMW tech to look into it for me and he said that he thought it was just the map.

From reading lots of E90 posts (the 197hp engine being used in the E90 for a while now), those guys say that realoem shows the turbos the same for the 231bhp and 197 bhp 2993cc engines.

One owner has had his E90 remapped to what he says is 280hp.

It does seem strange though that most remappers only run to about 240hp.
Of all the people out there though, I can't see Hartge making overstated claims.

Perhaps there is only way to find out...

Do you know of anyone who has had this done? The same output as a remapped 530d makes the cost not so much of a problem!
