My Ride: Awaiting a Saphire Black 520d SE, Black High-Gloss Trim, Black Fusion Upholstery, Hi-Fi Stereo, DAB Radio, USB/Ipod Adaptor. ETA Nov 21st 2007

I've got a brand new E60 520d - I couldn't afford the satnav option on the company lease, and so intended to use my TomTom GO 300. I (stupidly) deleted the smokers package, and now have nowhere to plug in the unit save in the rear centre console, which is really messy.

I notice a few places like Halfords (in the UK) offer to hard-wire up a satnav - has anyone uses this service, how do they do it, and are they going to damage anything in a car which isn't yet a week old. Any other (easy) options to hardwire the unit to a 12v power supply?

In US models front passenger footwell has a 12v socket. If this is in UK models you're good to go.

Yep, hopefully you have the 12v socket. Its perfect for a portable nav unit. You can tuck the cord away and plug it in, looks hardwired.

Damn it - I had been searching for something like that for years, then bit the bullet and bought BMW inbuilt Nav. Shame I didn't know about this a few months ago! Satnav unit with video output ... superb.

I agree, everyone should get this instead of a "stick on dash" tomtom. There are a few devices around which let you display video on your idrive screen - one of those + this unit would look superb.

Where exactly is this? I just hard-wired my radar above the rear-view mirror. Now I'd like to hard-wire my TomTom.

It's located on the left side of the passenger side footwell under the dash ( Take a peek under the dash and you will see the little black socket cover )
