Here are trouble spot if you DIY or take to someone else to do.



I have learned that if you take to whole strut and hub assembly off vs just removing the strut it is much easier and faster. That is what I did on the other front.

Yeah, I need to put the 124's on, but it's below 36 degrees here in NY and the weather was calling for snow this weekend. Can you believe that crap? Anyway, once the weather gets nicer, I'll throw them on.

KU - The car looks great. I did some serious swirving today to get the shocks and springs settled. You watch...it's going to get even lower! Take some more pix tomorrow during the day. Take from many angles and a full side shot at wheel level, so we can see how the car looks as a whole. Congrats on doing it yourself!

Hahaha! It's a lease AW. Trust me, after seeing ECF's car this weekend in person, I was sold on those RAD's, but I refuse to pay top dollar on wheels when it's a lease. Also, since this was my first (and definitely my LAST) xi/awd bimmer, I can't just take these wheels to my next car which will either be a 550 or an M5 (the xi offsets are way different). If the offsets were the same, I'd buy 20's in a heartbeat. Hell, it probably would have been my first mod. I like the AWD, but I loved how my old E39 530i Sport handled. Nothing beats the RWD feeling on a bimmer.

No shocks. They don't make shocks for our cars yet. That's next. H&R just released these springs to the US market for our car a few weeks ago. Being that it's taken them a year, I don't foresee shocks coming out anytime soon. And by them time they do, I'll be ordering my new 5-er.

As for alignment, I got that into my payment of $320 for install. That's why I was so stoked on my cost.

 

What is the deal with that trouble spot? Hard to get off due to rust or what? Also, how much time do you save by taking off the whole assembly versus just the strut?

 

You gotta find someone that will do it Alex. Don't attempt to do it yourself Alex. You're crazy. Here's what I would do...take it to a shop and have them do the work. Get a quote on an hourly rate. With 1-2 guys doing it, they'll be done in 3 1/2 - 4 hours tops. The going rate these days for labor is around $80 - $90. If it takes them longer, they're idiots. My guys were meticulous. I watched them do the first rear and the last front. They cruised once they figured it out.

 

I never thought of that. Let us know how the light adjustment goes. I think I might need to do that too!

 

WAIT...so after you put in your coilovers, you noticed that your regular headlights at night aren't lighting up the road as far, when compared to how your lights projected before you lowered? If that's the case, I feel much better!
