I'm in a process of changing my suspension from standard to M Sport + H&R Springs.

I bought a use set of front M Sport struts (PN: 31317905313 - Left, 31317905314 - Right) + M Springs. The problem I faced is when I removed the M Springs using brackets and compare them to the H&R springs they are a lot lower, which is okay, but the real problem is that the H&R Springs can be installed WITHOUT using the spring brackets, they go by hand, so when everything is tighten I don't feel the tension of the strut pressing the H&R spring.

Does someone faced similar problem? Is this normal and should I be worried. The H&R spring set were also removed from a BMW E60 535 with M sport suspension, but the front struts were already sold, so I bought only the spring set + the rear struts, which seem OK.

Here is a comparison between the M and the H&R springs. The difference is around 6cm!!! I suspect that the H&R spring might be cutted by the previous owner in order to drop the car even more.

Any thoughts? Does someone knows how many coils should a H&R spring have? Now the M and the H&R have 4-5 depending on how you count them. Based on the picture the H&R Spring is around 23.5cm high and the M spring is 28.5cm high.

 

The springs were OK. It seems that when installing lowering springs most of the time you don't need to compress the spring. This was my case also, and everything is on the car now.
